Special Services

Welcome to the Cottonwood Oak Creek School District Special Services Department webpage. Our department is responsible for providing students with exceptional abilities or disabilities the appropriate services to meet their learning needs. Our District promotes inclusive practices in our schools  to ensure students with disabilities have full access to the general curriculum in the least restrictive environment. We provide a continuum of service options to ensure each eligible student receives a free and appropriate education. Every student is an integral member of the school community and is encouraged to be a full participant in the school community.

Child Find
Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ’04) that requires PEAs to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged 3 through 21, located within their geographical boundaries who are in need of special education or related services. COCSD works diligently to locate, identify and evaluate children residing in our District who may be in need of special education or related services to meet their individual leaning needs. Students in our schools who are suspected of having a disability are initially referred to an Intervention Team at their school site.

A screening process we call "Child Find" occurs monthly during the school year to identify students ages 3-5 (prekindergarten age) who may be eligible for special education services in order to assist them in reaching their developmental milestones and participating in developmentally appropriate activities. If you have concerns about your child’s development or performance is delayed or affects their ability to progress in any of the following areas, please call 928-634-2288 Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
